RehabilitationAn active rehabilitation program should be combined with passive treatments for symptom management including moist hot packs with passive hydrotherapy for increased circulation to the active muscles, massage therapy and/or myofascial trigger point release for the reduction of muscle spasms and to reduce adhesion formations, and cryotherapy on a post-treatment basis to reduce inflamed tissues after each day’s program is completed. The Three Phases of Rehabilitation:
RETURN TO WORK PROGRAMIf after a patient’s rehabilitation program, the patient still cannot return to previous work responsibilities or duties, then the patient would be a candidate for a return to work program which includes a CARF certified program to insure the patient’s liability on the job. During the preliminary process of initial examination, the patient will undergo a full comprehensive FCE including psychological testing to assist the staff in determining if they are most appropriate for a multi-disciplinary work hardening program or a single disciplinary work conditioning program. Once the appropriate program is identified, specific goals through a treatment plan will be outlined and addressed throughout the course of their length of stay. WORK HARDENINGTreatment will begin and include strength and endurance activities related to the performance of work tasks, educational sessions, body mechanics and lumbar stabilization training, education of the client/family/employer as appropriate, community reintegration activities, biofeedback, individual counseling, and job simulation activities. Some forms of passive treatment may be used on an occasional basis, if necessary. However, the focus is on active treatment to facilitate return to work. WORK CONDITIONINGTreatment is similar to the work hardening program; however, patients need only strengthening and conditioning with out specific job simulation activities. Patients do not require any psychological services. CHRONIC PAIN MANAGEMENTA comprehensive program designed to teach you techniques and strategies to manage your pain so you can return to or seek gainful employment. In this program, you will learn natural methods which lessen or eliminate the need for medication. |
